TERELEPAR

Teso Religious Leaders’ Efforts for Peace and reconciliation (TERELEPAR) is an inter-religious organization formed by the Religious Leaders of Teso from all denominations to address issues of Peace, Reconciliation and Development. TERELEPAR comprises of the Uganda Catholic Church, the Province of Church of Uganda (Anglican), the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, the Baptist Union of Uganda, the Uganda Orthodox Church, and the Pentecostal Churches in Teso sub-region. The organization was formed by the Teso top religious leaders in December 2001 to try and address the then volatile Karimojong cattle rustling conflict that had culminated into the Ngariam massacres of September 9th 2001.

Our Thematic Areas

1. Conflict Prevention and Peace building. Integral to the success of TERELEPAR is its focus on working together with communities who are rights holders; duty bearers that include government institutions, local community leaders, and religious leaders to promote non-violent conflict resolution at grass root and sub-regional level.  
2. Good governance and, human rights and social accountability. The organization adopted a rights-based approach to further increase citizens’ involvement in demand and promotion of human rights at all levels. 
3. Humanitarian support. In a bid to support the most vulnerable to meet their basic human rights, TERELEPAR in the new strategic plan seeks to initiate projects geared toward supporting the livelihoods of the vulnerable community members.
4. Institutional Capacity Development. TERELEPAR has also developed institutional capacity through the establishment of its own secretariat that is fully resourced and equipped. 

What we will Love to do with Our new Partners as per our new strategic plan

To build a partnership that will enable us to reach out to the community to;

  • Strengthen existing structures of the Religious and cultural institutions to play a leading role in peace building promotion and protection of natural resources specifically land as crucial factor of production.

  • Enhance the capacity of men, women and youth to respond to land conflicts non-violently in Teso sub-region

  • Support access to justice for men, women and youth, who lost their land, through transient conflict transformation processes under their respective jurisdictions in Teso sub-region. 

  • Empower the community with a Livelihood project for their sustainability.

  • Gender based Prevention and response in the community and Implement livelihood projects, which fit in the cultural and climate-related environment of Teso.

Our focus

TERELEPAR focuses on land dispute resolution, gender and human rights promotion in Teso. On 29th July 2020, TERELEPAR officially launched a new strategic plan 2020-2024 focusing on improving its efforts in peace building and conflict transformation, promotion of gender and land rights and improving access to justice and implementing livelihood projects.
